Comment: Grand Rapids Township. Federal Building (pictured) also housed the central post office and was constructed in 1909 and dedicated in 1911. Originally established as GRAND RAPIDS on December 22, 1832 with Leonard Slater as its first postmaster. Changed to KENT on September 1, 1836, with Darius Winsor also becoming postmaster on this same date. Changed back to GRAND RAPIDS on February 6, 1844 with James M. Nelson postmaster during that time period. /b>
